Dominican Republic Advances to Quarterfinals at Punta Cana NORCECA Beach Volleyball Classic

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – The Dominican Republic advanced to the quarterfinals of the 9th edition of the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Classic in Punta Cana, a prestigious tournament that has brought together athletes from more than a dozen countries across the Americas and the Caribbean.

Women’s Team Secures Crucial Win

In the women’s bracket, the Dominican pair of Azmabeth Infante and Julibeth Payano earned their spot in the next round after defeating Nicaragua’s Socorro López and Norma Brenes in straight sets, 24-22 and 21-17. With the victory, the Dominican duo continues its medal campaign on home soil, keeping the energy high for local fans.

Men’s Team Dominates Guatemala

On the men’s side, Dominican players Melvin De Jesús and Ramón De Jesús overpowered Guatemala’s José Izaguirre and Santiago Penagos, with solid set scores of 23-21 and 21-13. The win pushed them forward in the competition, strengthening the country’s chances of advancing deep into the tournament.

Ideal Conditions in Punta Cana

The matches were played on the sands of Los Corales Beach, where, despite regional weather challenges, Punta Cana delivered excellent playing conditions throughout the event.

“Thank God we were able to hold the tournament without setbacks. Surprisingly, Punta Cana has given us perfect weather for each round, and the competition will conclude this Sunday,” said Amós Anglada, Vice President of the Dominican Volleyball Federation (FEDOVOLI).

International Event Strengthens Sports Tourism

This year’s Punta Cana NORCECA Beach Volleyball Classic features teams from the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the United States, and the Dominican Republic, among others.

The tournament is organized by the Dominican Foundation for Sports Tourism and Sports Event Marketing, with the endorsement of FEDOVOLI (Dominican Volleyball Federation) and support from NORCECA, Verón City Hall, and ASOLESTE (Association of Hotels and Tourism Companies of the Eastern Region).

Punta Cana: A Rising Hub for International Sports

With its growing presence in world-class events, this competition highlights Punta Cana not only as the Caribbean’s top vacation destination but also as a hub for sports tourism, international tournaments, and athletic investment opportunities.
