Punta Cana, DR – The Dominican Republic currently has 98.2% electricity coverage, the highest in Central America and the Caribbean, according to the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEM). The government now aims to reach 99.5% within five years, focusing on rural areas where 64,000 homes remain without access.

Vice Minister Alfonso Rodríguez announced the plan at the XXX Copimera Congress, noting it will require a US$130 million investment. Key initiatives include upgrading substations, expanding the power grid, and combating energy fraud to ensure a more modern and sustainable energy system.
