PUNTA CANA.—Grand Sirenis Punta Cana, a property of Spain-based Sirenis Hotels, is doubling down on regenerative tourism after obtaining EarthCheck Silver certification and extending its Green Key recognition for the fifth year in a row. The dual achievement reinforces a strategy that moves past traditional “sustainability” and focuses on creating a measurable, positive contribution to the destination over time.

EarthCheck Silver is granted only to operations that exceed global benchmarks across critical areas, including energy performance, responsible water use, emissions management, waste reduction, biodiversity conservation, and community and social responsibility. In the latest reporting period, the resort says it reduced energy consumption per guest by 18% and cut water use by 22% compared with the previous year—results that underscore the scope of the operational changes behind the certification.

Carlos Batani, Resort Operations Director, emphasized that the recognition is tied to a long-range vision: not simply limiting negative impact, but continuously improving the surrounding environment and strengthening the local ecosystem through better day-to-day practices and accountable management.

At the same time, the Green Key renewal—an environmental label awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE)—confirms that the resort’s routine operations meet rigorous criteria. Among the measures highlighted are the removal of single-use plastics and ongoing staff training to ensure standards are applied consistently across departments, from housekeeping to food and beverage.

Vanessa Costa Marín, Director of Operations for the Caribbean at Sirenis Hotels & Resorts, said the results show that large resorts can scale responsible practices without sacrificing performance. In her view, the certifications position the property as a reference point for the wider Caribbean tourism market, where travelers and industry stakeholders increasingly expect credible, verified environmental action.

The new recognitions also align with several ongoing initiatives at Grand Sirenis Punta Cana, including a 1.05 MWp solar power plant, its partnership with GPPA, and the Sirenis Sustainable program. Together, these steps place the resort as the first all-inclusive in the Dominican Republic to hold EarthCheck Silver and Green Key certifications at the same time—an accomplishment that further elevates Punta Cana’s profile in the region’s push toward more regenerative models of tourism.
