Punta Cana.- The sixth ministerial meeting of the Energy and Climate Alliance of the Americas (ECPA), scheduled for March 14 and 15 in Punta Cana, will focus on clean, sustainable and renewable energies, as announced today by the Ministry of Energy and Mines.
Under the theme “Renewable energies of the Americas: integration and innovation”, the meeting aims to catalyze a regional commitment to accelerate the shift towards clean energy.
It seeks to promote dialogue between the public and private sectors, identifying opportunities and challenges in the energy transition and sustainable development.
The agenda also emphasizes encouraging private investment in the sector and strengthening regional cooperation mechanisms to support energy transition efforts, according to a ministerial statement.
Participants will delve into discussions about “new technologies in the field of energy transition, such as batteries or energy storage systems, to moderate the fluctuations of renewable energy, which will result in the modernization of the Dominican system,” the statement adds.
Among the distinguished attendees are the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro; the Prime Minister of Guyana, Mark Phillips; and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Álvarez.
Other prominent figures present will be Andrés Rebolledo, Executive Secretary of the Latin American Energy Organization (Olade); Rayén Quiroga, Head of the Energy and Water Unit of the Economic Commission for Latin America (ECLAC); and Lilia Burunciuc, Director of Operations for the Caribbean of the World Bank (WB).
The event will also feature representatives from fifteen Ministries of Energy from across the region.
The ECPA, launched at the 2009 Summit of the Americas, is an OAS initiative designed to promote sustainable energy development in the region through cooperation, political dialogue, technical exchange and dissemination.
