The Vice Minister of Territorial Planning and Regional Development of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development, Sunday Matias, assured that territorial planning represents a great opportunity in the country to guarantee adequate management of agricultural, tourist, and flood-prone lands.
“In territorial planning we have primarily considered responses in three broad senses, the protection of agricultural soils, order in tourist lands, and the management of flood-prone lands,” he explained.
He indicated that, one year after Law 368-22, on Territorial Planning, Land Use and Human Settlements, was promulgated, the Ministry of Economy has accompanied 15 local governments in the preparation of their Municipal Territorial Planning Plans (PMOT). .
Regarding lands with a tourist vocation, Matías cited the efforts made in Verón-Punta Cana and micheswhere the application of law 368-22, since it is understood that it will contribute to solving problems related to informal settlements, vehicle load, and the overdemand of basic services such as water and electricity.
Regarding floodplains, the official gave as an example the municipalities of Santiago and San Cristóbal, in which buildings have been built and investments in agricultural projects have been made in soils prone to flooding, in the program “And what do you say? ” of Accent.
Regarding the municipalities with large agricultural lands, the vice minister highlighted that the City Council of San Francisco de Macorís concluded the preparation of its PMOT and that hard work continues in Moca to design this instrument. He pointed out that there is a great challenge in the municipalities of Constanza and Jarabacoa, whose agricultural and environmental soils are under great risk.
