During the week of November 23–30, the Bavaro branch of the POLITUR tourism police stepped up road safety operations in the Punta Cana tourist corridor, carrying out a broad vehicle screening campaign. Authorities inspected a total of 10,441 four-wheel vehicles and 1,523 motorcycles, with the goal of tightening traffic control in one of the busiest tourist areas in the Dominican Republic.
In addition to the vehicle checks, officers verified the records of 2,509 individuals at various strategic locations, including Bávaro, Uvero Alto, Cabeza de Toro, Punta Cana International Airport, the Basilica of Higüey, and the Anamuyita area.
Results of the Operation
According to the report from the tourism police, the intensified controls produced several concrete actions:
- Five motorcycles were transferred to the DIGESETT office in Bávaro–Friusa for violations of Law 63-17 on traffic, land transport, and road safety.
- Five people were referred to the Bávaro Prosecutor’s Office in connection with different social conflict incidents.
- Three foreign nationals were sent to the Specialized Gender Violence Unit after allegedly assaulting their partners.
The institution emphasized that surveillance along the main roads, streets, and tourist avenues of Bávaro–Punta Cana will continue to be reinforced. The objective, they stressed, is to prevent crime, strengthen visitor protection, and improve road safety in this key tourism hub of the Eastern region.
