PUNTA CANA — Following the recent announcement by international MRO (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) specialist FL Technics to open its first maintenance center in Punta Cana, Frank Elías Rainieri, president and CEO of Grupo Puntacana, declared that the region is on track to become a key destination for aviation-related investment.
“In five or ten years, we see Punta Cana as a magnet for aviation-related investments,” Rainieri stated in an interview with Mercado magazine.
He emphasized that the strategic alliance with FL Technics introduces not only advanced technical capabilities but also global certifications and industrial standards that will significantly upgrade the local workforce.
“We are building an industry centered on aeronautical services—one that has had minimal presence in the national economy,” Rainieri added.
The initiative includes partnerships with academic institutions, notably the Ann & Ted Kheel Polytechnic operated by Grupo Puntacana, to train local talent in aircraft maintenance, avionics, and airport operations.
Under the agreement, FL Technics will work alongside Grupo Puntacana and key educational partners to modernize and expand professional and technical training programs. This focus on education and workforce development aims to equip the region with long-term career opportunities in a fast-growing, high-demand global sector.
