Grand Finale Approaches for The BritchamDR Young Musician of The Caribbean Award Classical Music Competition

Santo Domingo, RD.- The British Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic (BritChamDR), in alliance with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music of London and the University of Bangor in Wales, will hold the Grand Final of the regional classical music competition BritchamDR Young Caribbean Musician Award.

The event will take place next Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in the Carlos Piantini Room of the Eduardo Brito National Theater with the participation of classical instrumentalists from 12 to 26 years old from various Caribbean islands.

Sharon Cabral, Executive Vice President of BritChamDR, reported that on this day 9 finalists will participate, 3 for each category (Junior, Senior and Young professional), who will perform different musical pieces, with the winner for each of the categories selected by a jury made up of three prestigious British musicians: David Watkin, Iwan LLewelyn and Jones and Katy Ayling.

Mrs. Cabral explained that in this third edition, Héctor Almánzar (clarinet) will be competing for the Junior category; Jade De Los Santos (violin); and, Samuel Bohórquez (piano), all of these representing the Dominican Republic.

In the Senior category, the young Tainé García (Viola) will participate for Cuba; and, for the Dominican Republic, the young people Sarai Ventura (violoncello) and Enmanuel Gálvez (Piano).

Likewise, in the Young Professional line, Gabriel Cruz (Flute) will participate for Puerto Rico; for Dominican Republic Nicole Rodríguez (Flute); and, for Haiti, Emantero Valbrun (violoncello).

The Executive Vice President of the British Chamber noted that the winner of each category will receive a scholarship to participate in a summer musical program in the United Kingdom, thanks to the sponsorship of the Sinfonía Foundation, the Commonwealth Table and the Friends of the National Theater Foundation. . This award also includes an educational program of master classes of strings, piano and woodwind instruments, during the award week, to be held in Punta Cana and at the National Conservatory of Music.

During the night, the musical theme of the award “Hymno a los Soñadores” will be premiered, a composition by Su-Chan Sang, a young Dominican musician with a degree in movie music of the Berklee College of Music and creator of musical works for various international productions.
