La Altagracia, RD. – Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Hotels & Resorts and the Punta Cana Macao Energy Consortium (CEPM) reported the construction of a photovoltaic park to generate clean energy in favor of sustainable tourism.
Grand Sirenis is part of the international Sirenis chain and CEPM reported the inauguration of the photovoltaic solar plant in the hotel complex facilities with a power of 1.05MWp.
They indicated that the initiative represents a significant milestone in the promotion of sustainable tourism and the adoption of environmentally friendly practices in this area of the country.
The project is made up of 1,568 photovoltaic modules, each with a capacity of 670Wp, generating an estimated 1,659MWh in the first year. This clean energy production will be key to boosting hotel operations, avoiding the annual emission of 1,173 tons of CO2 and offering visitors a differentiating experience by immersing themselves in a sustainable environment during their stay.
“This joint effort not only marks significant progress in sustainable tourism, but also promotes the responsible and planned energy transition that this tourist area requires,” said Oscar San Martín, general manager at CEPM.
“By integrating renewable energy and advanced storage technology, we are ushering in a new era in the way we approach and use energy. “We are honored to have allies like Sirenis to promote sustainability at all levels and provide an increasingly clean and carbon neutral tourist service,” explained San Martín.
For his part, Diego Díaz, Director of Operations Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Hotels & Resorts, maintained that the project is not only an achievement in terms of sustainability for the hotel chain, but also an example of technological innovation and a testimony of the commitment to excellence and the adoption of advanced technologies to preserve the planet for future generations.
“It's not just a set of solar panels; “It is a symbol of our commitment to a more sustainable future and a testament to what we can achieve when we work together towards a common goal,” said Díaz.
By joining forces in this innovative project, both companies demonstrate a shared commitment to promoting responsible tourism in the region, leading the way towards a future where sustainability and tourism excellence are inseparably intertwined in the visitor experience.
They assure that the initiative is an integral part of CEPM Zero, an ambitious plan aimed at transforming CEPM's energy matrix towards sustainable sources that include solar, wind, pumped hydraulic energy and green hydrogen.
The projected investment for this transformation amounts to 1 billion dollars, underlining the company's commitment to the decarbonization of its operations and to global guidelines in the fight against climate change.
