Uvero Alto, La Altagracia. – September 18, 2025. In a bold step toward sustainable tourism, Grand Sirenis Punta Cana Hotels & Resorts, part of the renowned Spanish Sirenis chain, has inaugurated a 1.05MWp photovoltaic solar plant at its Uvero Alto property. The project, developed in partnership with the Punta Cana–Macao Energy Consortium (CEPM), underscores the resort’s commitment to the environment and consolidates its position as a leader in eco-responsible hospitality in the Dominican Republic.

Clean Energy to Power Tourism

The plant is equipped with 1,568 high-capacity 670Wp solar modules, capable of generating 1,659MWh annually. This clean energy production prevents the emission of 1,173 tons of CO2 each year, significantly lowering the resort’s carbon footprint.

In addition to ensuring that hotel operations run on renewable energy, the project enriches the guest experience, offering visitors a stay in a resort aligned with top international sustainability standards such as ISO 9001, EarthCheck®, and Green Key® certifications.

“Through Sirenis Sostenible, we prove that tourism and environmental responsibility can thrive together. This solar plant reflects our commitment to preserve the unique ecosystem of Uvero Alto–Macao for future generations,” stated Carlos Batani, Director of Operations at Grand Sirenis Punta Cana. He also praised CEPM for its strategic alliance and shared vision of achieving carbon-neutral tourism.

Advancing Punta Cana’s Energy Transition

According to Óscar San Martín, General Manager of CEPM, the solar plant is “a milestone in Punta Cana’s energy transformation,” aligning with the company’s ambitious CEPM Zero program and its US$1 billion investment in renewable energy projects nationwide.

“This project demonstrates that by combining innovation and investment, Punta Cana can lead the Caribbean in sustainable, carbon-neutral tourism,” he added.

Sustainability Beyond Energy

This initiative is a cornerstone of the wider Sirenis Sustainable program, an environmental strategy that includes:

  • Beach conservation projects
  • Employee-driven recycling campaigns
  • Eco-Sirenis workshops to raise awareness among staff, guests, and local communities

Together, these efforts not only protect biodiversity but also generate jobs, strengthen foreign investment confidence, and align with the Ministry of Tourism’s vision of exponential growth in international visitor arrivals.

Punta Cana: A Model for Sustainable Tourism in the Caribbean

With this project, Grand Sirenis Punta Cana reaffirms its strict adherence to environmental regulations while demonstrating that both luxury and sustainability can coexist. The hotel stands as an example of how the Dominican Republic is positioning itself as a pioneer in renewable energy for hospitality, paving the way for a greener tourism future in the Caribbean.
