PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic — The much-anticipated Punta Cana Free Trade Zone (PCFTZ), a transformative project by Grupo Puntacana with an investment exceeding US$200 million, will be officially inaugurated this Wednesday by President Luis Abinader. The initiative marks a revolutionary step in the country’s economic diversification, establishing Punta Cana as a Caribbean leader in logistics, technology, and aeronautical services.
Spanning more than 742,000 square meters, the PCFTZ integrates three essential pillars of global trade — air, sea, and land connectivity — while also introducing the nation’s first independent aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) center. Grupo Puntacana describes the development as “a new milestone for innovation and growth in the eastern region of the Dominican Republic.”
A Smart Hub for Global Business and Technology
At the heart of the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone lies the Punta Cana Hub, a modern campus designed to attract fintech, IT, and innovation-driven enterprises. The Hub aims to become a magnet for startups and established companies seeking a strategic location with world-class infrastructure and seamless access to international markets.
The project also features a multimodal logistics center developed in collaboration with DP World, one of the world’s foremost logistics operators. This partnership connects air cargo from Punta Cana International Airport with maritime shipping and ground transport, enabling efficient import, export, and transshipment activities and reinforcing the Dominican Republic’s position as a Caribbean logistics powerhouse.
Driving Employment and Economic Transformation
Beyond its strategic infrastructure, the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone is set to generate more than 10,000 direct and indirect jobs, offering new opportunities in logistics, aviation, and technology sectors. Cutting-edge systems will optimize operations, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and high-level security standards.
The project has already attracted significant international investment, including a US$70 million commitment from FL Technics to construct the Dominican Republic’s first FAA-certified MRO facility. This state-of-the-art center will service commercial aircraft from across the Americas and comply with global aviation safety and maintenance standards.
Expanding Global Connectivity from the Dominican Republic
The opening of the PCFTZ on November 12 represents a bold step in Bolstering Punta Cana’s global presence. With the synergy between air transport, seaports, and road terminals, the new free trade zone positions the country as a key gateway for international commerce and innovation.
“Through this initiative, Punta Cana becomes more than a tourism destination — it becomes a global business hub,” said representatives from Grupo Puntacana. “The Free Trade Zone will link innovation, trade, and technology under one sustainable vision for growth.”
A New Era for Punta Cana’s Economic Future
As the Dominican Republic continues to attract foreign investment, the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone stands as a symbol of progress and resilience. It underscores the country’s ambition to evolve from a tourism-driven economy to a multisectoral hub for logistics, technology, and aviation — bridging Latin America with global markets.
