Guyana government partners with Grupo Puntacana to build new airport terminal

The Cooperative Republic of Guyana and the Puntacana Group signed a public-private agreement for the construction, operation, and joint management of a new airport terminal at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Guyana.

The signing was carried out between Mr. Juan Edghill, Minister of Public Works of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, and Mr. Frank Elías Rainieri, president of Grupo Puntacana, within the framework of an official visit of the Government of Guyana to the Dominican Republic.

The agreement seeks to enhance Guyana’s tourism, provide support and investment in sustainability, and build, operate and manage an additional airport terminal.

Likewise, it is established that Guyana’s air transport constitutes a national good and service for public and private use. Therefore, the government prioritizes incorporating alternative modes of operation and administration of airport infrastructure to improve air mobility and promote tourism through sustainable mechanisms.

Grupo Puntacana has shown technical and financial capabilities and extensive experience in airport management in the Caribbean region through the development of the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ).

In 2023, President Mohamed Irfaan Ali of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and his delegation toured the Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) to strengthen diplomatic relations between both nations, established since 1970. They were received by Mr. Frank Elías Rainieri, president of Grupo Puntacana; Mrs. Francesca Rainieri, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Grupo Puntacana; Mr. Giovanni Rainieri, Director of Operations at Airside; and Alberto Smith, Director of Landside Operations at Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ).
