Haitian Impersonating Dominican Army Member Apprehended by Authorities

An individual from Haiti, dressed as a military man, was apprehended at the “El Mango” checkpoint in the province of San Juan. Members of the General Directorate of Immigration and the Dominican Army were responsible for the arrest. The Haitian pretended to be a member of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) and did not possess any identification or documents.

Reports indicate that this imposter managed to bypass multiple military checkpoints while wearing the Dominican army uniform. After being caught, he was taken to the headquarters of the army’s third infantry brigade for further processing. It remains unclear whether he will face legal charges or be handed over to the Directorate General of Immigration for repatriation.

The volatile and unsafe situation in Haiti has led many Haitians to illegally migrate to the Dominican Republic. Some successfully evade the military checkpoints that have been established along the border, where security measures are enforced.

Currently, the Dominican government has ordered the closure of the border due to the resumption of construction on a canal intended to divert water from the Masacre River.
