Santo Domingo – The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has forecasted a day of intense heat and scattered rainfall for this Sunday, as a combination of Saharan dust, a trough in the troposphere, and easterly winds impact weather conditions across the country.

These atmospheric factors are contributing to elevated temperatures and high wind chills, while also creating cloudy conditions with localized showers and possible thunderstorms in several provinces.

During the morning hours, La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Samaná, and San Cristóbal are expected to experience light to moderate rain, accompanied by occasional thunderstorms.

As the day progresses, the weather system will likely shift, bringing showers, thunderstorms, and isolated wind gusts to the following areas:
Santo Domingo (especially the northern region), Monte Plata, Monseñor Nouel, La Vega, Santiago, San Juan, Azua, Bahoruco, Independencia, Barahona, and Elías Piña, among others.

Temperature Outlook for Greater Santo Domingo

  • Minimum temperature: 21°C to 23°C

  • Maximum temperature: 33°C to 35°C

Public Health and Safety Recommendations

Indomet is urging the public to take precautions against the high temperatures:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water

  • Avoid prolonged sun exposure, especially during peak hours

  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing

  • Take extra care of children and elderly individuals, who are more vulnerable to heat-related health risks

The meteorological agency continues to monitor evolving conditions and advises residents to stay informed through official weather updates.
