Herrera Cooperative’s Savers Express Frustration over Court Case Resubmissions and Unexpected Room Changes

PUNTA CANA. After the Court of Appeal of Santo Domingo Oeste notified the plaintiffs and their lawyers to hear the case of the Cooperativa Herrera in the Charles de Gaulle Courtroom, the meeting place changed to Las Caobas, which caused displeasure.

They complained that because of this practice, lawyers and plaintiffs have been made to run from one place to another, as if it were a mockery of their desperation.

Today, a challenge would be heard regarding an appeal to review the measure of coercion of the defendants in the case. The hearing was rescheduled for Friday, the 16th of these, at 9:00 in the morning.

Part of those affected are from the Eastern region of the country. According to the data provided by those affected, in the town of Consuelo, in San Pedro de Macorís alone, more than 119 people were affected by the fraudulent operations of the aforementioned cooperative company.

Among the defendants in the case is the former president of Cooperativa de Ahorros y Crédito Herrera (Coop-Herrera), Jorge Eligio Méndez, and also those named Gabriel Santana Borsilea, Kenia del Carmen Liriano Pérez, Ana Cecilia Tejada Santos de Álvarez, Simona Borsilea, Jacer Eliazar Mejía Pereyra and Julio César Minaya who are accused in the Operation Owl file of fraud for some RD$2.5 billion.
