Santo Domingo — The Moon Palace Grand Punta Cana is slated to open its doors by the end of the year, bringing with it a significant economic boost to the Dominican Republic’s tourism sector. The first phase of the luxury resort will offer 1,000 rooms and generate more than 5,200 direct jobs, according to Gibrán Chapur, CEO of The Palace Company.
Chapur confirmed that preparations are already underway with the Ministry of Labor to begin the recruitment process for the new hotel, which is now in the final stages of construction and expected to begin operations within the next three months.
As part of the recruitment strategy, Minister of Labor Eddy Olivares will lead efforts to source and train employees from provinces with the highest unemployment rates, ensuring that the hotel’s job creation benefits reach the most vulnerable communities.
Chapur emphasized that The Palace Company views the Dominican Republic as a strategic investment destination due to the consistent growth of its tourism industry, which continues to lead the Caribbean region.
Tourism Minister David Collado welcomed the announcement, calling it a testament to investor confidence in the Dominican tourism sector. “The fact that a single hotel project is creating more than 5,000 direct jobs is a powerful indication of tourism’s positive contribution to our economy,” he said.
Collado highlighted that tourism now accounts for over 15% of the country’s GDP and continues to drive job creation across multiple sectors. “Tourism’s impact is transversal,” he added, “benefiting agriculture, construction, transportation, and more.”
The Ministry of Labor is coordinating efforts to meet the high staffing demand, reinforcing the growing value chain of the Dominican tourism industry, which has experienced sustained growth in recent years.
