Dominican Republic – The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) has unveiled what it describes as the most ambitious investment in air navigation technology in its history, a strategic move aimed at reinforcing operational safety, upgrading critical infrastructure, and positioning the country as a trustworthy hub for international airlines.

According to IDAC’s general director, Igor Rodríguez Durán, public investment in aeronautical equipment will exceed RD$1.2 billion pesos this year, resources that will be allocated to the modernization of air navigation, control, and communication systems at the country’s main airports.

Rodríguez Durán explained that this comprehensive upgrade seeks to ensure that Dominican airspace complies with the highest international standards, a key factor in attracting new airlines and additional routes from different regions of the world. The plan includes the implementation of cutting-edge technologies that will optimize traffic management, improve efficiency in operations, and further elevate safety levels for both passengers and crews.

A Strong Signal to International Airlines

Within this context, the official emphasized that the Dominican Republic is increasingly being viewed as a robust, attractive, and reliable market by major global carriers. He pointed to the return and continued presence of airlines such as Air France as clear proof of that confidence.

Air France not only resumed its operations to Punta Cana, one of the country’s flagship tourist destinations, but has also confirmed the continuation of the route with the same frequency for the upcoming season, reinforcing the strategic importance of the Dominican Republic within its Caribbean network.

With this historic investment in airport and airspace modernization, the country aims to consolidate its role as a regional aviation leader, providing better conditions for airlines and a safer, more efficient experience for millions of travelers who choose the Dominican Republic each year.
