Santo Domingo- The Dominican Republic’s tourism sector recorded a historic high of 8,362,285 visitors from January to September. The Tourism Minister, David Collado, disclosed this. He highlighted 580,617 visitors in September alone. Of these, 468,916 arrived by air and 111,701 by sea. It was a 55% increase from September 2019 and a 21% increase from 2022.
In 2024, the country has received 6,430,400 air and 1,931,896 cruise passengers. Collado said these figures represent a 45% increase from 2019, 36% from 2022, and 10% from 2023. He foresees 11.5 million visitors by the end of the year, setting a new record.
Majority of the tourists came from the United States (39%), Canada (9%), and Colombia (8%). Of all visitors, 56% arrived via Punta Cana airport, followed by 27% at Las Americas and 12% at Cibao.
