PUNTA CANA. In the country, a more flexible working day is being studied with the so-called 100/80/100 formula, with the consent of companies and employees.
The possibility of reducing the working day in the Dominican Republic is studied for the workers’ week, but they maintain productivity and salaries.
The announcement was made by the General Director of Labor of the Ministry of Labor, Andrés Valentín, who explained that this formula would have a 20% reduction in working hours but with 100% of guaranteed productivity; and 100% of the decent wage.
“Years ago, workers demanded the so-called triple eight, that is, having eight hours of rest, eight hours of work and eight hours of leisure, but now they want flexibility,” said Valentín.
This possibility could reduce the work week, which is the current trend in other countries that have adopted employees working four days a week, with the same workload and earning the same amount.
Valentin spoke in these terms when participating in the conversation titled “Transformation of the world of work, challenges and legal perspectives”, an activity in which he expressed that: “We will do this with testing, with verification, with opinion, the Ministry of Labor is in the stage of listening to professionals from different areas in order to possibly have robust and effective regulations. For this we are contemplating pilots or trials in different areas.”
