It’s February, time for the carnivals!

At the end of January, preparations begin for what is one of the most important and anticipated pagan cultural festivals of the year, THE CARNIVAL. Carnival is like mixing spirit, joy, party… In the Dominican Republic, carnivals are organized and supported by the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, along with other important organizations, such as municipalities and city councils, between the months of February and early March.

These celebrations have developed so much that it is difficult to evaluate which is the best or the most important carnival center in the capital and in several participating provinces. However, on this occasion, we highlight the most outstanding carnivals with the greatest participatory development.

We have expressed in previous articles on this topic that the attempts and achievements of carnival shows mean many years of hard work in this invaluable Dominican specialty.
The provinces of La Vega and Santiago are the ones with the largest representations and where different types of costumes appear with great creativity. Specifically, very interesting extravagances are allowed in La Vega. We emphasize that it was “the vegans” who industrialized the Dominican carnivals.

This year the La Vega Carnival begins, you can see everything that will happen here: https://carnavalvegano.do/
