Journalists Recommended Guidelines for Attending FITUR 2024

SANTO DOMINGO. The 2024 delivery of the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), It must be an event in which the journalists who come to cover collaborate so that its agenda can meet its objectives and so that our role contributes to national tourism objectives.

For the Dominican Republic, based on coverage announcements from national media programs and platforms (radio, television and digital media – social networks included).) It is noted that this edition may be the one that will receive one of the greatest coverage. All opinion-leading programs will have their production equipment installed at the fairgrounds.

In addition to the teams by programs, the number of journalists by individual media appears to be a record, to which is added the representation of the Dominican Association of Tourist Press – the professional body that brings together journalists who cover the industry, which announced that a commission of its leaders, led by Yenny Polanco Loveraits president, will have a programming of transmissions through its digital platforms and its page website and that of many of its members.

Given this massive media coverage, it is necessary (to suggest) this:

Code of Journalistic Behavior against FITUR 2024 that says like this:

The journalists attending the event must understand that:

  • Understand that this coverage is a national issue, that exceeds the profiles of individual/corporate work for a certain medium, with respect to which the value of our work is further beyond the limits set by each person's employment contract.
  • That it is appropriate and favorable for each journalist or program team to try to get the best angle of the news produced by the event, avoiding the mechanical attitude of copy and paste the contents of the communications of the participating entities. All content can be improved and all content can focus the creativity of each person managing that text.
  • Exercise punctuality and collective responsibility. Support the Dominican mission through punctuality regarding departure and arrival times, so as not to delay others. A single person who comes down late for the appointment to leave (both at the hotel and at the fairgrounds) affects group discipline, the good name of the country.
  • Pay special attention to cover special launches and proposals of Dominican projects (especially Punta Bergantín, Miches, Pedernales, results of negotiations, bilateral agreements of the country (MITUR) with counterparts – issuing tour operators, airlines, investment announcements, program proclamations sustainable tourism investment and others).

And a final recommendation:

Visit the Pavilion Ecuador to express solidarity with them in view of the situation of internal insecurity that has occurred in that brother country and to urge them to promote their country that has so many attractions.
