Juana Stefani MartinezJuana Stefani Martinez gave information about her experience. She paid $1,199 for a trip to Bogota, Medellin and other cities with her daughter for her 15th birthday. However, the trip never materialized. Many Dominicans were left stranded in Colombia with no hotel reservations or return flights.

Juana explained that they formed WhatsApp groups to discuss the situation. The number of scammed individuals is over 700, with projections it could exceed 1000, as per El Nacional.

The victims still hope Deputy Attorney General Berenice Reynoso will investigate the case. They hope the De Vacaciones RD agency owners will face justice for their actions affecting hundreds of would-be travelers.

Describing the scam as “delicate”, Martinez cites examples. One resident of Punta Cana paid 500 thousand pesos for a trip involving several people. Another from Barahona paid 300 thousand pesos. These instances suggest a multi-million peso scam.
