Many individuals have allegedly been defrauded by a travel company promising trips to Colombia. They are banking on Yeni Berenice Reynoso, the Director General of Prosecution of the Public Ministry, to pursue justice against the business owner of On Vacation RD, Emmanuel Sanchez.
Juana Stefani Martinez disclosed that she paid $1,199 for a trip to Colombia with her daughter. She planned to celebrate her 15th birthday exploring Bogota and Medellin, and other towns. However, they didn’t receive any call to confirm the trip until the news of the scam broke.
She made it known that about 700 people, who formed WhatsApp groups, were scammed too. This number could increase as citizens from the provinces join the groups, says El Nacional.
The victims are hopeful that Deputy Attorney General Berenice Reynoso will investigate. They expect her to take the owners of De Vacaciones RD agency to court and have them repay for the damages.
Martinez describes the scam as severe. There’s evidence indicating that a resident of Punta Cana paid 500 thousand pesos, and another from Barahona paid 300 thousand pesos, making it a multi-million pesos scam.
