LA Monumental, Start Auto and AVIAM disqualified from operating by INTRANT

Punta Cana, DR.- The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation of the Dominican Republic (INTRANT) reported, through a statement to the tourism and hotel sector of Bávaro and Punta Cana, that it was determined that several companies do not have licenses that enable them to provide transportation services and are disqualified from operating.

The companies in question are Bávaro Monumental, Start Auto Parts SRL and AVIAM LTD, they would not be authorized to operate, since they do not have the respective operating licenses in accordance with the regulations established by Law 63-17, to offer the service.

INTRANT urges the hotel and tourism sectors to obtain the services of the aforementioned companies, reiterating that all land transportation services must comply with the formalization dictated by the regulations derived from Law 63-17 on mobility, land transportation, traffic and road safety.

After a meeting held at the request of Intrant so that these companies could complete the documentation required to offer the service legally, they did not comply with what was agreed within the given period, Therefore, the governing body of transportation calls on the companies that use them not to contract the service since it is being offered illegally.

The Intrant reiterates that all land transportation services must comply with the formalization dictated by the regulations derived from Law 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transportation, Transit and Road Safety of the Dominican Republic.

Article 44 of the aforementioned regulations, addresses the sanctions on providing the service without an operating license or identification sign, and in that sense, indicates that “the person who operates a public passenger transportation service without the prior issuance of the corresponding operating license or displaying an identification sign identification that has not been duly authorized, will be sanctioned with the payment of a fine of five (5) to ten (10) minimum wages prevailing in the centralized public sector for transporting passengers without having operating licenses.

Likewise, article 74 addresses matters relating to the operation of the tourist transportation service, “The land tourist passenger transportation service will operate in places of tourist and cultural interest to transport tourists or hikers in vehicles of optimal quality, and will be regulated by INTRANT and the city councils, who will authorize its operation through an operating license.”

Role of INTRANT

The Intrant, through the Directorate of Supervision and Control of Road Sanctions, must regularly monitor and supervise the operations of the transportation service, to ensure compliance with current regulations and the road safety of users, in accordance with the provisions of Law 63-17.

The INTRANT communication is known after a few days ago a fatal accident occurred on the highway that connects the town of La Otra Banda, near Higüey and Verón in Punta Cana, which involved the aforementioned companies Start Auto and AVIAM, with a balance of 7 people dead and about 17 injured, all collaborators of the tourism sector of the Bávaro-Punta Cana destination.

To date, the authorities have not communicated the results of the tests carried out at the scene, which were expected to provide the reasons for the accident and establish responsibilities. It is now known that these companies did not have the authorization to carry out the services they were providing at the time of the accident.
