Several major North American airlines have announced new routes to Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic this winter as demand for travel to the tropical country continues to grow steadily.

Airlines are now looking to capitalize on the growing demand and have already started preparing for the upcoming winter season, in which passenger movements are expected to break records.
Among those carriers are several US-based companies, including Deltalaunching a new direct service from Boston to Santo Domingo as of December 16 of this year. That’s a big win for travelers in the Northeast, especially since JetBlue is currently the only airline to fly that route.
The growing cultural and historical city is a big draw for thousands of travelers, who flock there to enjoy the oldest city in America. Delta is expected to release the first batch of tickets soon, pending formal approval from government officials.
For its part, United Airlines submitted an application to begin operating a new non-stop connection from miami to Santo Domingo although no further details have been given about when the new route will officially start operating.
Philadelphia-based travelers will soon be able to fly to Santo Domingo with the opening of a new non-stop route to the Dominican capital this December with Frontier. The low-cost airline will use the Airbus A320 Neo on the new route, with a capacity of up to 186 passengers.
Canadians currently make up the second largest entry market into Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic, and the number of trips will skyrocket this year following the signing of the Open Skies Agreement between the two countries.
The Dominican Republic Civil Aviation Board recently approved plans to launch a new West Jet route from Calgary to Punta Cana this winter, with details on frequency and pricing expected to be released soon.
Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic-based low-cost airline Boundaries has announced that it plans to offer more direct flights to Canada this year and early next year.
