Marriott International Hotels supporting bee conservation with new initiatives for guests to experience on their next trip

With more than 45 years of beekeeping tradition, Grupo Puntacana, through its foundation, maintains a beekeeping program that not only generates additional income for the community, but also promotes the conservation of bees and their natural environment.

Guests of The Westin Puntacana Resort & Club can participate in guided tours of the apiary, where they learn about the fascinating life of bees and their importance to the local ecosystem.

In Costa Rica, select brand hotels, located in the Greater Metropolitan Area, recently announced the launch of a garden project with “hotels for pollinators”, which favor the interaction of living beings, facilitating pollination and biological combat. Pollinator hotels are made from recycled materials.

Aware of the importance of these insects for environmental balance and food production, The Westin Reserva Conchal and W Costa Rica hotels have established an apiary that houses more than 5 million bees in 60 hives. This effort not only protects bees, but also promotes the pollination of thousands of hectares of forest, thus contributing to regional biodiversity.

The honey produced in these apiaries, known for its exceptional purity and quality, is used in the restaurants of The Westin Reserva Conchal and W Costa Rica hotels, as well as offered to guests as a unique amenity. Additionally, the local community benefits from the employment generated by this project, in line with Marriott International's commitment to supporting initiatives that benefit neighboring communities.

In the Central Pacific, at Los Sueños Marriott Ocean & Golf Resort, the conservation of Mariolas bees is a priority. Through educational programs and the creation of specially designed beehives, the hotel not only protects these native species, but also offers guests the opportunity to learn about their importance to Costa Rica's biodiversity. The mariola hives are located in the common areas of the hotel, near the pools and restaurants, each one with pertinent information about the species, its habitat and other details. Mariola bees are characterized by not having a sting.

While, in the city, Costa Rica Marriott Hacienda Belén offers the Taste of Place experience, a tasting of honey produced in different regions of the country by the SME Pollen Keepers in virgin farms or reserves.
