In anticipation of the first tourism summit in Africa and the Americas set to hold at Paradisus Palma Real in Punta Cana, David Collado, Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, emphasized the significance of the event which will be attended by key tourism stakeholders from both continents, under the auspices of UN Tourism at the behest of the Dominican Republic.
Collado predicts the summit will have a historic and profound impact on the country, as it will be under global tourism spotlight for three days. He stated: “Dominican Republic will be in the global tourism limelight again, reaffirming our standing as a trailblazer, a deeply significant event indeed.”
The opening of this influential conference aimed at fostering closer tourism ties between both regions will be hosted by President Luis Abinader and Minister of Tourism, David Collado. Collado will also be giving the opening speech for the event scheduled to kick off on Thursday the 3rd at 10 am.
Minister Collado’s welcome speech will be followed by words from Louis Steven Obeegadoo, Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Mauritius and President of the Regional Commission for Africa, alongside Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of UN Tourism.
The event, a brainchild of UN Tourism and the Dominican Republic, is themed: “Enhancing South-South partnership via investment in education, culture, creative industries and innovation.”
At the Paradisus Palma Real Golf & Spa Resort hotel, high-ranking meetings, presentations and sessions will be held for three days. It will be a platform for ministers, academics, experts and key players in the industry from both regions to discuss challenges, investment opportunities, sustainability practices, inclusive tourism, innovation, culture, history, and avenues for shared growth.
Dominican president, Luis Abinader, will also feature prominently in the day one presentations, where he will discuss the significance of hosting this First UN Tourism Summit for Africa and the Americas for the country.
Minister Collado is scheduled to discuss the topic: “A Successful Public and Private Management Model for Tourism Development”, on Friday the 4th at 11:45 am.
UN Tourism recognizes the immense potential both continents offer in terms of natural attractions, rich cultural heritage and the considerable resurgence in international tourist arrivals.
