On Saturday, November 2, the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) revealed a significant growth in Dominican tourism in the first nine months of 2024. The period saw a record 8,362,285 visitors, the most in the country’s history for that timeframe.
Mitur’s head, David Collado, shared these figures while presenting the sector’s statistics for September and the year to date.
In September alone, the country welcomed 468,916 air tourists and 111,701 sea cruisers.

Collado stated that this growth represents a 55% increase compared to the same month in 2019, and a 21% increase over 2022.
He added that the country has received 6,430,400 tourists by air and 1,931,896 by sea during this period. These numbers contributed to the record-breaking total of 8,362,295 visitors.
This figure for the first nine months represents a 45% increase over 2019, a 36% rise over 2022, and a 10% increase from 2023. He expects the year to end with 11.5 million visitors, setting another historical record.
The leading tourist-generating countries are the United States at 39%, Canada at 9%, Colombia at 8%, Argentina at 6%, and England at 4%.
The Tourists primarily arrived at Punta Cana airport (56%), followed by Las Américas (27%), Cibao (12%), Puerto Plata (3%), and La Romana (1%).
