More than 200 incoming flights per day surpass 2023 air operation figures in the Dominican Republic

In January 2024, the Dominican Republic recorded air passenger traffic of 1,775,767. This figure breaks a record for the highest number of passengers in any month, surpassing the previous record established in July 2023 with 1,700,910 according to information based on data from the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) based equally on the data prepared by the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation.

The report indicates that last January, the country received a total of 834,641 arriving passengers and 941,126 departing passengers. In contrast to January 2023, the aforementioned number of passengers represents a growth of 13%. This growth continues a trend that began in April 2022 (22 consecutive months), in which each month has set a passenger traffic record for the month.

According to a study by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), at the end of 2023, the Dominican Republic ranked tenth among the main travel destinations in terms of growth in passenger arrivals.

Regarding aircraft movement, in January 2024, a total of 13,167 flights came/departed from the Dominican Republic, of which 6,573 were arrival flights and 6,594 were departure flights. That is, on average more than 200 incoming flights arrived in the country per day.

Regarding the performance of the airports, we show the following figures: In January 2024, the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana Airport, recorded passenger traffic of 932,113. This figure represents 52% of the total and is the busiest month in its history, in terms of passenger traffic, surpassing its previous busiest month of March 2023 (884,903) by almost 50,000 additional passengers.

It is worth mentioning that the Puerto Plata Airport, also known as Gregorio Luperón Airport, recorded its busiest month (112,992 passengers in January 2024), since March 2019 (almost 5 years).

After two consecutive months of growth by all active commercial airports in the months of November and December 2023, in January 2024, the La Romana and El Catey Airports recorded a decrease of 17% and 18%, compared to January 2023.

In January 2024, a total of 142 airlines operated commercial passenger flights to/from the Dominican Republic, of which 45 were scheduled airlines and 97 were charter airlines. The busiest, JetBlue Airways, led the list with 285,509 passengers, which is equivalent to 16% of the total.

It is worth mentioning that American Airlines and Delta Airlines set passenger records for any month, from/to the country with 210,563 and 158,375 passengers respectively.
In January 2024, a total of 326 routes were operated on commercial passenger flights from/to the Dominican Republic, of which 172 were regular flights and 154 were charter flights.
