Santo Domingo – The Japanese Embassy and the Native Bonsai Club are set to host the fourth edition of the National Bonsai Exhibition from Thursday, July 10 through Sunday, July 13 at Ágora Mall. The event aims to raise environmental consciousness while celebrating the delicate art of bonsai cultivation.

This year’s exhibition will showcase 58 meticulously cultivated bonsai trees, representing a blend of native, endemic, and introduced species. The trees will be displayed throughout the mall, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore the artistic and ecological aspects of this centuries-old Japanese tradition.

Beyond the bonsai display, the four-day event will feature a series of interactive workshops and cultural presentations, including sessions on bonsai care techniques, Japanese calligraphy, origami, and traditional fashion. Activities will be held during both morning and afternoon hours, inviting broad public participation and cultural engagement.

Roberto Sandro Rivera, president of the Native Bonsai Club, emphasized the deeper message behind the event. He described bonsai as a symbol of patience, harmony, and reverence for life, values he hopes will resonate with visitors and inspire a renewed commitment to environmental stewardship.

“We want people to reflect on how small actions—like caring for a tree—can lead to a greater appreciation for nature and the responsibility we all share in protecting it,” Rivera said.

With support from the Japanese Embassy, the exhibition continues to build on a growing cultural exchange between Japan and the Dominican Republic, while reinforcing the role of art and nature in promoting sustainability and biodiversity conservation.

The exhibition is free and open to the public, offering an enriching experience for families, students, and nature enthusiasts alike.
