New York – Igor Rodríguez Durán, Director of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), mentioned the Open Skies agreement with the United States as a noteworthy opportunity for the civil aviation sector and its clientele.
At the Dominican Week 2024 in New York, organized by the American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR), Rodríguez revealed that this remarkable agreement, following over 25 years of negotiations, will encourage liberalization of air travel between the two nations, thereby promoting competitiveness, growth, and innovation.
“The deal opens a direct path to growth, competitiveness and innovation, benefiting the business sector with the opportunities it offers,” he clarified.
Also, he underscored that Open Skies agreements empower airlines to function flexibly, eliminating limits on route, frequency, and pricing, to the advantage of both businesses and consumers.
At the event, he also drew attention to the agreement’s significance in terms of enhancing global connectivity and fueling economic development. Lower prices from greater competition among airlines will boost tourism, he conveyed.
Rodríguez credited the achievements of the initiative to President Luis Abinader’s leadership and Tourism Minister David Collado’s commitment.
Other key speakers included Jacqueline Mora from the Ministry of Tourism, Ernesto Bournigal Read, Superintendent of the Securities Market, and David Llibre from the National Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (ASONAHORES).
AMCHAMDR’s Edwin de los Santos (President), María Álvarez (Vice President), Steven Puig (Treasurer), and Eduardo Cruz (Secretary) were also present.
