Pedernales, DR – A momentous occasion awaits Pedernales as Sigmund Freud, General Director of the Public Private Alliance (DGAPP), announces that December 16 of this year will mark a historic milestone with the arrival of the first cruise ship at the Port of Cabo Rojo. This auspicious date will officially inaugurate the province as an international tourist destination.
Freud revealed that the Dominican State has already invested approximately $80 to $90 million in the area, with plans to invest an additional $150 to $200 million by year-end. This significant investment includes the construction of three hotel buildings, providing a total of 1,600 rooms.
Moreover, the province is witnessing the development of an airport, with an estimated cost ranging between $70 and $75 million.
While the government is making substantial public investments, Freud emphasized their pursuit of private sector partners to ensure the success of the Pedernales project. The objective is to find a private partner willing to invest the capital necessary to complete the first phase, which amounts to approximately $1.3 billion for the construction of the remaining six hotels. Additionally, the construction of the Port of Cabo Rojo is well underway, and the arrival of the first cruise ships is anticipated in December.
Freud highlighted the progress in the repair and expansion of the Enriquillo-Pedernales highway, set to be completed before the year’s end.
The Port of Cabo Rojo will boast four berths, a passenger reception center, a water park, an interactive zone, children’s games, sunbathing areas, a commercial area, a spa, and a main restaurant, enhancing the region’s tourism potential.
