SANTO DOMINGO – President Luis Abinader has signed Decree 306-25, officially creating a special advisory commission tasked with evaluating the feasibility of building a state-of-the-art baseball stadium in the Ensanche La Fe sector of the capital. The proposed facility would be constructed on government-owned land and meet Major League Baseball (MLB) standards, positioning Santo Domingo as a potential host for international baseball events.

The commission will not only focus on the stadium’s viability but will also examine additional urban development projects tied to the initiative. These include efforts to revitalize the surrounding area through the creation of new sports and recreational spaces, reinforcing the government’s goal of maximizing the social and economic value of public land.

The decree highlights the strategic importance of modern sports infrastructure that reflects the Dominican Republic’s storied baseball tradition and its growing prominence on the global stage.

The commission will be led by Jorge Subero Isa and includes high-ranking officials and subject matter experts: the Minister of Sports, the general manager of BANDEX, the executive director of the National Baseball Commissioner’s Office, and specialists Angélica Noboa Pagán, Elka Shecker Mendoza, Olivo Rodríguez Huertas, and Edgar Torres Reynoso, who will serve as executive director.

The body will report directly to President Abinader and function under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance until its mission is completed.
