President Abinader Officially Opens Three Projects in La Altagracia

La Altagracia.- President Luis Abinader inaugurated three projects this Wednesday in the province of La Altagracia, which include the Cabeza de Toro tourist and fishing dock, a Home for the Elderly and a Community Technology Center (CTC).

The president, together with the executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM), Jean Luis Rodríguez, inaugurated the Cabeza de Toro fishing and tourist dock, which will benefit around 30 thousand fishermen formally registered at the national level and will improve living conditions and labor of the community members of the area.

During the ribbon cutting of the Yacht Club, the head of state highlighted the importance of small investments, as in the case of this work that will help improve sport fishing as it is located next to the recently inaugurated fishing pier.

“This is the balance that we have in our Government for the fishermen in the area who did not have a position for them and that combination is what really makes a great destination in this sector of Punta Cana and in the country,” Abinader noted.

Meanwhile, the director APORDOM highlighted that this solution in Cabeza de Toro, one year after its first launch, is already a reality, a reason for satisfaction to provide people with a structure as they deserve, a community with tourism and fishing potential. ; important for the entire province of La Altagracia.

“Today, with the tireless support of President Luis Abinader, we deliver for our fishermen, who live off what they bring in during their fishing days, and who made a necessary claim to dignify this work; as well as locals and visitors who come and go on catamarans to enjoy the landscapes of our coasts,” said Rodríguez.

And he added: «The Cabeza de Toro dock that we delivered today is among the 14 that we plan to inaugurate in the country during 2023, of which we have already delivered 6 and this seventh is added, as part of the second stage of the National Plan of Construction and Rehabilitation of Fishing, Tourist and Sports Docks”.

Rodríguez also highlighted the impact of the National Fishing Docks Plan, indicating that it has not been a simple task, from its conception, through each survey, to its construction, it has been an enormous effort and despite certain obstacles they remained firm because They knew that the goal was achievable and that above all, it would be worth it.

The work consists of two breakwaters, four walkways and a recreation gazebo with a total area of ​​203.65m2. It also has a capacity for 5 larger draft vessels and 22 shallower draft vessels, simultaneously, it has a metal superstructure, a synthetic wood deck and 8” piles filled with concrete with a compression resistance of 350kg/cm2.

The Cabeza de Toro fishing dock has the objective of improving the living and working conditions of the community members of the Eastern area, generating more jobs, investments and well-being for those who make fishing their first source of foreign currency and in this way providing a food source of high nutritional value for the health and well-being of the population.

Among the advantages of its building are that its visitors will be able to walk on this construction to appreciate the natural beauty of the waters of this beach, which will attract the attention of tourists to see the work.

Reaffirms the Government’s commitment

Meanwhile, the executive director of the Dominican Council of Fisheries and Aquaculture (CODOPESCA), Carlos Then, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fishermen for the improvement of the sector.

In that sense, he stated that for the first time in history in June and July of this year, around 300 pensions were granted to Dominican fishermen, of which 62 fishermen were pensioned in La Altagracia. In addition, he announced that in the coming days the vessels that are in good condition to serve the fishing sector will be delivered by the Navy of the Republic.

Day Home for the elderly population of San Rafael de Yuma

Subsequently, President Luis Abinader, together with the Executive Director of the National Council for the Aging (CONAPE), José García Ramírez, inaugurated a modern reception center for the elderly of this community.

During the event, the director of CONAPE, José García Ramírez, stated that this is the beginning of an ambitious plan by President Luis Abinader to turn this community into the first municipality friendly to older adults so that people age with dignity and autonomy.

This new home will have modern sanitary and electrical facilities, bedrooms, an administrative office and a room where workshops and training courses will be held, in addition to offering comprehensive development services and monitoring the needs of older adults.

Community Technology Center (CTC)

President Abinader also inaugurated the Community Technology Center (CTC), in San Rafael del Yuma, with an investment of more than RD$20 million pesos.

At the opening ceremony, the Minister of Housing and Buildings, Carlos Bonilla, expressed that thanks to this investment, they will also promote the development of the municipality of San Rafael del Yuma, improving opportunities for more than 4,500 young people of different ages.

These young people, he specified, will receive training lessons in digital marketing, cybersecurity, cell phone repair, programming, internet training, computer assembly and repair, among others.

Meanwhile, the directors of the CTC, Isidro Torres, and INFOTEP, Santos Badía, stated that the implementation of this new center will benefit young people with a strengthened curriculum and the collaboration of both institutions.

Inauguration of the Eastern Industrial Park

Earlier, the president, together with the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, attended the inauguration of the new Industrial Park of the East of Industrias Aguayo, a leading company in the manufacturing of products derived from cement.

The new industrial park is an innovative and environmentally friendly project, which will serve as a source of new opportunities, income, jobs and will contribute to real estate and tourism development in the eastern part of the country.

United Warehouses in Punta Cana

Then, the president participated in the inauguration of a new branch of Almacenes Unidos, in Punta Cana.

At the event, the Minister of Industry and Commerce highlighted that the investment made in the new infrastructure was RD$2,000 million pesos, which meets a great need in the eastern region.

Also, Juan José Fernández, president of Almacenes Unidos, indicated that with the opening of the new branch in the province of Altagracia, more than 300 direct jobs will be generated.

Heads the 46th Meeting of the Technical Commission (RCT) of the ILO and Cinterfor

Likewise, President Abinader led the opening ceremony of the 46th Meeting of the Technical Commission (RCT) of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and with the Inter-American Center for the Development of Knowledge in Vocational Training (Cinterfor), where he highlighted that the level of unemployment in the country is currently at 4.7%, this being the lowest in recent decades.

At this event, the president also highlighted that last year 34% of the new jobs that were created in the country went to young people in their first job.

President Abinader was accompanied in the activities by the governor of the province of La Altagracia, Martina Pepén; the ambassador of Japan Takagi Masahiro and the vice ministers of Public Works, Luis Bastardo, and of Housing and Buildings, Ney García.
