Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader will lead the inauguration ceremony of the “Dominicana Azul” solar photovoltaic project on Friday. The project, developed by the Canadian company Azul Zenith Energy Corp, SRL, is expected to create more than 900 direct jobs in the Dominican Republic.
The ceremony will take place in the municipal district of Arroyo Salado, Cabrera, in the province of María Sánchez, Nagua. The “Dominicana Azul” project represents a significant step towards sustainable development and is led by Oscar Ordoñez, Rafi Farah Carbonell and Carlos Ureña in the Dominican Republic.
The solar plant is projected to contribute 182,611 megawatts annually to the National Interconnected Electric System, supporting industries and households while reducing energy costs. The modern infrastructure includes an automated electrical substation and a 138,000-volt transmission line extending approximately 37 kilometers to improve power transmission capabilities between the Northeast region and the Central Cibao area.
The project also aligns with environmental objectives by reducing more than 100,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year, supporting the Dominican Republic’s commitment to combat climate change. As the largest solar park in the northern region, “Dominicana Azul” will provide stability to the electrical grid and encourage greater investments in national development.
