PUNTA CANA, La Altagracia.-It is important to daily validate the chemical balance of water in swimming pools and water parks in order to prevent losses and damage to the structure.
This was stated by Ricardo Galeano, executive of Dominican Carechen (CAREDOM), for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, who addressed the topic “The Invisible Cost of unbalanced recreational water”, at the XXXV Commercial Exhibition 2023 of the Hotel and Tourism Association of the Dominican Republic Asonahores.
“The investment must be protected by keeping the water attractive, economical and safe for users, but at the same time we must ensure that these chemicals are not destructive to the characteristics, mechanisms and structures of the pool,” Galeano said.
He considered it necessary to take into account that each chemical, and especially the type of chlorine used, has a direct effect on the chemical balance of the water, “so you have to use the appropriate product that affects the structure of the pools.”
Galeano cited the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) AFO Manual, which insists on understanding “certain principles that enable the management and operations of aquatic facilities.”
In addition, he gave as an example the Pool and Hot Tub Alliance (PHTA), which in its pool and spa manual indicates that the chemical imbalance of pool water attacks materials, such as sealants, wall cement, iron and copper from pumps, heaters, pipes and valves.
“Each type of chlorine has its characteristic and impact on the chemical balance of the water and the factors of this measurement,” said Galeano during his conference at the Asonahores trade fair.
“Many purchasing, maintenance, operations, and aquatic facility administrators consider that they have the cost under control because they negotiate a fixed price or because they buy the cheapest chemical, unaware of the impact that those bad decisions have,” he explained.
That is why, he said, it is possible to determine that the lack of knowledge “or attention to this process directly affects the operating cost of recreational water and, in addition, takes its toll in thousands of dollars, with constant damage to the structure.” “physics of the pool or recreational park.”
Ricardo Galeno insisted that unbalancing water is the easiest thing there is in this process, but by balancing it we can reduce the extra costs generated by not having them at an optimal level.”
