PUNTA CANA. More than 30 million units of products that put health at risk were destroyed by the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor).
Eddy Alcántara, Executive Director of the institution, explained that since his arrival at the entity, on March 22, 2021, a series of operations began that have covered 87% of the national geography.
During the operations, cleaning and personal hygiene products were seized, such as deodorants, creams, toothpastes, chlorine, mouthwash, sanitary towels, and disposable diapers.
Pastas, rice, chicken broths, soups, milk, beans, various canned goods, including juices and other adulterated or unsuitable beverages for human consumption, were also seized.
Pro Consumidor also seized a huge amount of medications, sexual stimulants, alcoholic beverages, and cigarettes.
The more than 30 million confiscated items were incinerated because they were in a state of decomposition, expired, with rusty, contaminated, dented cans, with the presence of pests, and because many of them were counterfeit.
