Promotion of Development through Economic and Tourism Collaborations between Spain and the DR

Punta Cana, DR.- The Official Chamber of Commerce of Spain in the Dominican Republic (CAMACOES) and the Hotels and Tourism Association of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores) have signed an agreement to promote and develop economic and tourism projects that enhance commercial relations between Spain and the Dominican Republic.

In the agreement, the entities establish that it is motivated by the fact that tourism is an activity that generates significant economic income for the Dominican Republic, being the sector with the broadest value chain and that most impacts the other productive sectors of the country.

The agreement was signed by Francisco José Pérez Menéndez, president of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, and David Llibre Henríquez, president of Asonahores, who agreed that the agreement establishes the bases of collaboration to undertake strategies that support the economic development of the private sector in the tourism field.

“This will be done – establishes the agreement – through the different productive sectors and the increase in investment opportunities between companies from both countries, and especially with the objective of contributing to the well-being of the Dominican population.”

The entities will establish a joint cooperation program each year, which will include developing actions to improve private commercial relations between both countries by managing a process of integration and cooperation based on productive and tourist interests.

The Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Asonahores also agreed to establish strategies that promote the value of services and the quality of products within the tourism sector, and promote the development of trade and productive chains “by periodically exchanging offers and demands for goods and services of each one, and develop diverse studies jointly.”

Also, the entities agreed to carry out a systematic exchange of the publications they make, printed and digital, on commercial and investment perspectives that may be of interest to both parties.

The agreement includes carrying out joint studies of interest to the parties, which reflect the current situation, reality, and needs of the productive and tourism sectors, and will carry out joint publications on topics of interest to them.

The institutions undertake to “exchange information on international fairs and exhibitions that are held and provide each other with the broadest cooperation and technical support at their disposal to facilitate the participation of the respective companies and entities in those events that are of interest to them.”

In addition, the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and Asonahores will provide effective solutions to the obstacles and take advantage of the opportunities of both sectors identified by both, and will provide “the members associated with both entities with guidance and advice that facilitate the development of their business activities, and any collaboration considered appropriate for common purposes.”

The agreement will be valid for three years from the date of its signature and maintains the independence of the entities, which will appoint a mixed commission for its application. It is motivated by the interest of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce to promote, facilitate, and increase economic, commercial, industrial, and financial exchange between the Dominican Republic and Spain.

For Asonahores, the motivation, the agreement says, aims to contribute effectively to the competitiveness and sustainable development of the Dominican tourism sector, and to represent the main economic agents of the private hotel sector and national tourism.
