Santo Domingo.- Various institutions will collaborate to host the “Parade for Inclusion” during the RD Fashion Week Santo Domingo 2024. The Attorney General’s Office (PGR), through its Department of Human Rights, along with the General Directorate of Penitentiary Services (DGSP), Banreservas Volunteers, and the Fashion Week Inclusion Foundation, are all involved in this project.
These organizations are creating a unique chance for individuals prisoners and youth caught up with law-related issues to participate in the fashion event. They will be able to walk down the runway and showcase their creations at the RD Fashion Week Santo Domingo 2024. The event is set for this Saturday, October 12, from 3:00 P.M. at the Marriott Hotel in Piantini, National District.
The aim of the “Parade for Inclusion” goes beyond fashion, say its organizers. They hope that it will foster self-belief and empowerment, showing that elegance, vibrancy, hope, and light can be found even in the most unexpected places.
This year’s theme for the parade is “Fantasy on the Island”. Participants will include female prisoners and youth in legal trouble, all of whom will model the crafts and clothing made by inmates of the Najayo Correction and Rehabilitation Center Women. Additionally, a visually impaired DJ will provide entertainment.
High profile attendance will include Rita Abinader Corona, well known for advocating for social inclusion, inclusive fashion, and appreciating the work of inmates in the Najayo Women’s Penitentiary Center.
The event will also host the participation of senior citizens, individuals with disabilities, at-risk youth, plus-size people, and working women from Punta Cana and Puerto Plata beaches.
Diplomatic representatives, government officials and notable Dominican artistic personalities are also expected at the “Parade for Inclusion”.
Others supporting this initiative include Dominican designer Melkis Díaz; philanthropic foundations such as the Gissell Eusebio Life Transformer, I Can Too, Love me as I am, and Nest for Angels; as well as the Specialized Tourist Security Police (POLITUR) and the National Council for the Aging (CONAPE).
