Bogotá, Colombia.- With the presence of the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, and a large delegation from Puerto Plata, the Dominican Republic inaugurated its fabulous stand in the ANATO 2024 tourist showcase, which takes place from February 28 until Friday March 1st.
For the first time, Puerto Plata attends this important international tourism fair, represented by a delegation of more than 80 members, including authorities, businessmen, tourism leaders and the press.
The leading participation of the destination occurs in the midst of the clear dynamism that it experiences, with the important projects that aim to revolutionize tourism in this Caribbean tourist reference.
During the formal ribbon cutting ceremony, the minister highlighted the importance of Colombia in the sustained growth that tourism in the Dominican Republic has had, pointing out the great opportunities that Puerto Plata has to take advantage of this market, which is the third most important for the country, with the arrival of 300 thousand tourists per year, growing by 20% in 2023, compared to 2022.
For her part, Birgitt Heinsen, president of the Tourism Cluster of the Puerto Plata destination, thanked the minister on behalf of the delegation present at ANATO, highlighting the moment that the destination is experiencing, together with the enthusiasm of the authorities of the public and private sectors, who They work hard to offer the best conditions to visitors.
“We are very motivated with the alliance achieved between Mitur, Asonahores, Arajet and our institutions in Puerto Plata. As a result of it, we come here looking for new agreements and air connections for the destination, and we are sure that we will return with excellent news for our entire sector,” he stated.
The inauguration ceremony of the stand was led by the ambassador of the Dominican Republic in Colombia, Félix Aracena Vargas, the mayor of the San Felipe de Puerto Plata municipality, Diomedes García, Manuel Sànchez Silverio, mayor of Maimón, the Norte del Mitur regional director, Carlos Atahualpa Paulino.
For the private sector Carlos Rodolí and Grecia Gómez, for the Association of Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Companies of the North (ASHONORTE), César José de los Santos and Manuel Finke, of the Association of Hotels and Commercial Establishments of Playa Dorada, Mileyka Brugal, of the Chamber of Commerce and Free Trade Zone of Puerto Plata.
