Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, has secured its place as the most popular international destination for Colombian travelers during the first half of 2025, according to a new report by Despegar. This Caribbean paradise leads the rankings, followed by Madrid, Spain, and Panama City, which round out the top three most sought-after destinations.
Brazil: The Surprise Travel Boom
Brazil has emerged as 2025’s biggest tourism revelation. Travel searches to the country surged by 90% during the first semester, with projections pointing to a staggering 145% growth for the remainder of the year. Between January and July alone, 13,870 Colombians visited Brazil, staying an average of seven to ten days.
According to Pablo Jaitman, Despegar’s Country Manager for Colombia, the Brazilian destinations set to see the highest growth in the second half of 2025 include:
- Rio de Janeiro (+119%)
- Fortaleza (+105%)
- Foz de Iguaçu (+22%)
- Brasilia (+20%)
Domestic Tourism: Cartagena Leads the Way
On the domestic front, Cartagena de Indias continues to hold the crown as the most visited city in Colombia, closely followed by Santa Marta and Bogotá, reaffirming the strong appeal of local beach, cultural, and urban destinations.
