Punta Cana – The Dominican Republic is gearing up for a landmark hemispheric event: the 10th Summit of the Americas, scheduled for December 1–5, 2025, in Punta Cana. Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez confirmed the date and emphasized both the significance of the gathering and the intense preparations underway.
Showcasing Leadership and a Human Security Agenda
Álvarez described the summit as an opportunity for the country to showcase its diplomatic leadership and commitment to multilateralism. The agenda will focus on “human security,” addressing key areas such as public safety, food security, energy security, and water security—strategic pillars for advancing regional governance and collective well-being.
To ensure broad participation, three preparatory forums—Youth, Business, and Civil Society—will be held to generate concrete proposals for the attending heads of state.
A Global Stage for the Dominican Republic
Beyond the political dimension, Álvarez highlighted the summit as a platform to attract foreign investment, strengthen the country’s international image, and showcase its natural and tourism assets.
Will Donald Trump Attend?
Adding to the anticipation is the reported participation of former U.S. president Donald Trump. Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza stated that Trump is expected to attend the summit, marking what would be his first visit to the Dominican Republic as president.
While the presence of other world leaders has yet to be confirmed, the possibility underscores the high-level political profile this edition could reach, positioning Punta Cana as a hub for continental dialogue and cooperation.
A Regional Epicenter for International Cooperation
Set against the backdrop of Punta Cana’s world-class setting, the 10th Summit of the Americas is expected to bring together presidents, prime ministers, and other key leaders around a shared agenda of human security and sustainable development. The potential appearance of Donald Trump adds an additional layer of global attention to an event poised to strengthen the Dominican Republic’s role on the international stage.
