Madrid, Spain.- Within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2025Banco BHD held the second edition of its BHD Forum: Tourism and Investment, focused on the topic “Opportunities for the economic ecosystem of tourism in the Dominican Republic.”
At the event that took place in Madrid, Spain, the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, said that “More than a fair, the Fitur meeting and the active participation of the business community and the Dominican financial system, is an example of how the union of state organizations and the private sector promotes the development of the tourism sector, which is a pillar of the Dominican economy. and a country brand”.
Likewise, Steven Puig, president of BHD, during his keynote speech, offered some words of welcome and gratitude in which he highlighted that “From Banco BHD and from the financial ecosystem that makes up the companies of the BHD Financial Center, we are very aware of the impact that this sector has on the development of our provinces and on the present and future well-being of Dominicans.“, said.
“We commit to continue being promoters of local tourism, facilitating not only our value proposition to this sector, but also spaces for dialogue like this one, which promote knowledge and strengthen links between the companies that work for the economic ecosystem of Dominican tourism.”Puig added.
The forum took place in two parts. In the first, a keynote address was presented by Alejandro Beltrán, senior partner at McKinsey Iberia, who explained that “To take the tourism industry to the next level, the Dominican Republic must continue the development of specialized job opportunities and investment in infrastructure, combining new elements that allow extending seasons and adopting generative AI focused on generating personalized and unique recommendations, expanding the already wide current offer, and increasing the current range of options that allows the country to consolidate itself as the leading destination in the Caribbean”.
In the second part of the event, a panel was held that was moderated by Guillermo Méndez, executive vice president of Corporate and Business Banking at BHD, in which topics were addressed about the opportunities offered by the economic ecosystem of the tourism sector. Dominican. The panelists were Biviana Riveiro, executive director of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana), Jacqueline Mora, technical vice minister of the Ministry of Tourism, and Ernesto Armenteros, executive director of César Iglesias.
During the panel – which reached a maximum capacity audience – key topics were discussed such as the importance of multi-sector collaboration and how companies can take advantage of synergies within the tourism ecosystem to drive economic development. This forum marked its second version, after the success of the first edition at Fitur 2024, where the topic “Sustainable tourism: Current situation, perspective, mitigants and best practices” was addressed.
The meeting was attended by allies such as Gaby García-Quinn, Minister of Economy of Guatemala. Likewise, Juan Bolívar Díaz, ambassador of the Dominican Republic to the Kingdom of Spain, was present; Luis Molina Mariñez, general manager of BHD International Bank Panama; as well as relevant actors for the development of the tourism sector in our country.
