- With 100% of its customers connected to a smart grid, CEPM is moving towards carbon neutrality with a projection of 800 MW of renewable energy by 2030 and storage technologies.
- Currently, the company has 34 photovoltaic projects in operation and development totaling 269.8 MWp, of which 21 are with hotel clients.
La Altagracia.– With more than 32 years of experience, the Punta Cana-Macao Energy Consortium (CEPM) has established itself as a model of energy excellence in the Dominican Republic, promoting economic development and energy confidence in the Eastern region, a key tourist destination that continues to grow continuously and sustainably.
Through the CEPM Zero initiative, CEPM continues to lead the adoption of clean energy and moves forward with its goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. The company maintains a projected investment of more than US$1,000 million, to expand its renewable capacity to nearly 800 MW, through wind, solar and green hydrogen technologies; and storage systems of more than 230 MW.
In this sense, CEPM is advancing its decarbonization goal with more than 350 MW of solar and storage (BESS) projects under construction and development in the eastern part of the country, and an additional 300 MW of wind generation by 2027.
The company has 34 solar parks in operation and construction, with a total capacity of 269.8 MWp. These include photovoltaic projects in collaboration with 21 hotels from the main international tourism chains, which will generate 395,023 MWh of clean electricity in the next 15 years and will avoid the emission of 225,558 tons of CO2, thus supporting the decarbonization of their operations. Additionally, CEPM supports the energy transition with 372 clients in distributed generation, which together add up to an installed capacity of 33.2 MW.
In innovation, the company continues to be a pioneer by electrifying 100% of its vehicle fleet in 2024, becoming the first in the energy sector and in the country to achieve this achievement.
Model of excellence and leadership in service quality
CEPM distinguishes itself by providing a service comparable to the best international standards. With 100% of its clients connected to a smart grid, the company guarantees efficient and personalized management of the electricity supply. Thanks to its innovative systems, 72% of users are connected to a prepaid modality, which allows them to access energy management solutions in real time through various applications. This technology, developed by Dominican talent, has been exported to countries such as Chile, Peru, Costa Rica and Aruba, impacting more than 5 million users in the region.
The company has been recognized by the Regional Energy Integration Commission (CIER), highlighting CEPM as the leading electricity distributor in the Dominican Republic and among the three best in Latin America in its category.
“With a management model based on excellence, we have managed to boost tourism and improve the quality of life of our communities, and we will continue to lead responsibly to ensure a cleaner, more efficient and reliable energy future,” said Rolando González-Búnster, president and CEO of InterEnergy Group, parent company of CEPM.
The success of the Eastern zone as a sustainable tourist destination would not be possible without a world-class energy infrastructure. CEPM has invested more than US$1.1 billion to guarantee a reliable and continuous energy supply 24/7. This reliability has been key to attracting tourism investment and strengthening the hotel offer in its concession area, which represents 65% of the tourism sector nationwide, covering more than 58,000 hotel rooms.
