PUNTA CANA. Chicken producers considered it urgent that the government look for other markets to sell the excessive chicken production in the country and prevent this production sector from going bankrupt.

Wilfredo Cabrera, president of the National Confederation of Agricultural Producers (Confenagro) reported that the chicken production capacity in the country reaches 23 million units per month.

He pointed out that 3 million units of chicken are left without a market monthly since the consumption of the product is 20 million.

He stressed that if the government does not seek new markets for chicken production in the country, “a dark future awaits.”

He argued that seeking new markets implies that local production reaches levels of product quality that allow it to compete with Brazil and the United States.
