Dajabón.- The Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, and the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre, toured the border provinces to supervise the progress of the perimeter fence project, which is 84% complete. This initiative, launched by President Luis Abinader, aims to improve border security and at the same time promote the economic and social development of the region.
The project covers the provinces of Montecristi, Dajabón, Elías Piña, Independencia and Pedernales along the Dominican-Haitian border. With a total investment of RD$2,388,410,938.92, RD$1,944,304,856.24 have already been allocated, which reflects the government's strong commitment to regional security. Paliza confirmed that the first stage should be completed in February 2025, while the second stage, which could extend up to 110 kilometers, will be put out to tender soon.
Construction progress varies between provinces, with Elías Piña at 100%, Montecristi and Dajabón at 98%, Pedernales at 97% and Independencia at 40%. The project highlights the Dominican Republic's dedication to securing its borders and promoting regional stability.
