Santo Domingo.- DP World Dominicana received the MSC Marie, the largest ship by capacity and size that has ever entered the country. The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) ship, which has a cargo capacity of 17,644 TEU and measures 366 meters long by 51 meters wide, arrived at DP World's Punta Caucedo terminal, marking an important milestone for trade in the Dominican Republic and the Americas.
This achievement was made possible by DP World's $700 million investment to expand its port terminal, increasing its annual capacity from 1.4 million to 2.5 million TEUs. The expansion included the extension of the main quay by 450 meters and the acquisition of four Super Post Panamax and 10 RTG cranes, improving the port's capacity to handle large volumes of cargo. With a total of 32 RTGs and 10 gantry cranes, the terminal is now equipped to support growing trade demand.
Manuel Martínez, general director of DP World Dominicana, highlighted that the successful management of vessels of this size reinforces the country's potential to become the leading logistics hub in America. Furthermore, the arrival of the MSC Marie was carried out with a commitment to sustainability, using 100% electric equipment, aligning with DP World's global decarbonization strategy to achieve “Net Zero Emissions” by 2050.
