Higuey, La Altagracia.- The Higüey City Council honored Frank Rainieri as a “Meritorious Son” for his significant contributions to regional development and the promotion of tourism in the Dominican Republic. The award, presented by Mayor Karina Aristy, recognizes Rainieri’s pioneering role in the creation of the Punta Cana resort. His efforts led to the creation of the region’s first major hotel, the Club Med, which marked the beginning of Punta Cana’s rise as a premier tourist destination.
Rainieri is also the founder of Punta Cana International Airport, the world’s first private commercial airport, which has been vital to the tourism growth of the area. He also created the Puntacana Foundation, which focuses on corporate social responsibility and sustainable development, implementing numerous projects to benefit local communities and protect the environment.
In his acceptance speech, Rainieri expressed his deep gratitude for the recognition, highlighting the efforts of his team and his commitment to continue contributing to the development of the Dominican Republic.
