Samaná, RD. – The new president of the Hotel and Tourism Association of the Dominican Republic, Asonahores, Juan “Papo” Bancalari, assured that hotel occupancy this season in the Dominican Republic is going very well with hotels full, but expressed concern about the risk of the “suburbanization” of destinations, international promotion and the completion of infrastructure works, issues on which he said they are already working with the authorities.
“The hotels are full today, thank God, the season is going great, that is, with the constant increase in the United States and Canada. And a lot of increase from South America, who are coming from Arayeta, has been a success. And many tourists are coming from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, etc. “It's going very well,” said Papo Bancalari when participating in the inauguration of the paved streets of the municipal district of Arroyo Barril, in Samaná.
He said that, although they have high expectations for this year, they are focused on working with the authorities on various issues that affect the tourism industry and that concern the union and that he classified as “important.”
It was when he mentioned the topic of territorial planningconsidered for him as basic for the future in the development of tourism.

The strategy, which was implemented for the first time in the country, was an initiative of Minister David Collado, who had expressed on several occasions his interest and commitment to turning the Dominican Republic into the leading sustainable tourism country in the entire region. This entire exercise and meetings with the sectors linked to tourism would define the roadmap that would mark the design of the National Sustainability Strategy for the country. The results of the plan have not yet been socialized.
In Asonahores focused on tourism promotion
On the other hand, Papo Bancalari referred to the issue of tourism promotion, on which he placed high expectations on its results, citing the country's participation in the upcoming Fitur 2025 International Tourism Fair in Madrid.
“DOAs we have already spoken several times, that is already being done now with Fitur, and God willing we have, as always, high expectations, I think it will be a success,” said the president of Asonahores.
He revealed that he was attending the Arroyo Barril event to talk with Minister David Collado about the completion of works that are in the process of constructionsuch as the entrance to the town of Santa Bárbara, the boardwalk and others more specifically in the province of Samaná.
He called the paving of the Arroyo Barril roads “very positive,” and expressed his expectations that in the future the same will happen with all the streets of Samaná.
