PUNTA CANA. Puntacana Resort presents the second edition of the Culinary Weekend, with the motto “Epicurean Escapes”, to be held on December 6 and 7 at the Bamboo restaurant of the Tortuga Bay hotel, with the participation of Leonor Espinosa, renowned Colombian chef and owner of the LEO restaurant in Bogotá, accompanied by her daughter, the sommelier, Laura Hernández.
The LEO restaurant occupied position #8 of the 50 Best Latam in 2023 and currently holds position #53 of the Worlds 50 Best. While, La Sala de Laura, by Laura Hernández, has position #80 on the list of The World's 50 Best Bars.
Together, Leonor Espinosa and Laura Hernández Espinosa are at the head of the Leo Group, an initiative created by an interdisciplinary team, with the purpose of contributing to the development of Colombia through gastronomy as a tool for social transformation.
The Leo Group Project seeks, through its Leo restaurants: La Sala de Leo, La Sala de Laura and its Funleo Foundation, to contribute to the generation of sustainable alternatives that contribute to the well-being of ethnic and rural communities.
The gastronomic experience continues on January 10 and 11, 2025 with the participation of international chef, David Castro from FAUNA Restaurant in Valle de Guadalupe. It occupies position #100 in the Worlds 50 Best list and in 2023 it occupied position #5 in 50 Best Latam.
Castro will be accompanied by his wife, Maribel Aldaco, pastry chef at FAUNA, and recognized as Latin America's Best Pastry Chef 2024.
About chef Leonor Espinosa
In 2005 he opened the restaurant that bears his name, where he fuses traditional and modern. In 2015, Leo established itself as one of the best gastronomic destinations in the region. She was named the World's Best Female Chef by The World's 50 Best Restaurants in 2022 and her restaurant LEO for the past six years has been included on this prestigious list, ranking 53rd in its latest edition in 2023.
For eight years it has also been included in the 50 Best Restaurants in Latin America, a list that has also earned it the Best Chef in Latin America award in 2017 and the Estrella Damm Chefs' Choice Award in 2020. Other recognitions obtained include having held ranked 45th in the Top 100 The Best Chefs Awards 2023, and No. 5 in Traveler's Choice Winners Trip Advisor 2020.
